Last year's ceremony saw Michael Mosley's widow, Dr Clare Bailey Mosley, accept an award on his behalf, three months after his death, as the doctor was inducted into the event's hall of fame for his podcast Just One Thing.
Voting for this year's Listeners' Choice award opened on Thursday as well, with the public invited to take part until Friday 29 August.
The nominees for the spotlight and specialist awards will be revealed soon, organisers said.
